March 2004
**** A subtle sense of interplay makes these classical-tinged guitar duets a pleasure to the ears.
Both players are skilled on their nylon-stringed guitars, delivering both quiet melodies and more difficult passages with grace.
Download.com September 2004 - For typical classical guitarists, deeply entrenched in their sense of tradition, it would be a severe catachresis classifying the music of the Rosette Guitar as classical guitar music. However, in a time where cross-disciplinary composers such as Dominic Frasca and Roland Dyens are finding a voice, there is no doubt that this disc will also reach a large audience. This CD is the type that must be listened to from beginning to end; where the music within guides the listener on a deliberate journey. The music is often peaceful, but also at times jubilant and at other times pensive. I am certain that the person who would best appreciate this recording is one who seeks the timbre of nylon acoustic guitars, yet is looking for an alternative to the standard repertoire currently available. Timothy Smith - minor 7 webzine View the entire review at minor 7 magazine March 2004 - Their CD Portage To Tunnel Mountain, features eight acoustic instrumentals, including the exquisite, three-part "Medeterranean Suite", which is handled with sensitivity, telepathic interplay and graceful musical finesse. The opening numbers, "Winter Lullaby" and the title track, set the stage for the music to follow - discreetly orchestrated arrangements that amply demonstrate Lyngstad and Marsh's abilities, and that will appeal to a wide range of acoustic guitar lovers. Guitar 9 webzine View the entire review at guitar nine magazine July 2004 - Laid-back and comfortable, this Duo (Kevin Marsh and Michael Lyngstad) offers some peaceful and relaxing original compositions. Sprightly riffs, counterpoints and harmonious melodies dance back and forth between the fingers of these two talented artists as lead and rhythm guitar exchange places then work together to create a marvellous whole. Delightful tunes like "Evergreen", "Winter lullaby", and "Suspended Animation" add a spirited, almost Spanish touch, but all possess a Western feel. For a pleasing music introduction to guitar duets, Portage is ideal. Fresh, lively, and entertaining, it will satisfy many a discriminating ear. Music so powerful that when I close my eyes, I forget for those too few brief moments that I've got a sink full of dinner dishes and two toddlers. a fan in Atlanta, Georgia who likes "messengers" |
